I AM WATCHING YOU...

It's the talk of the office now. We are uneasy, working under the ever-inspecting eyes of the cameras installed at the corners of the office floors. Bloody intruders!

“What they are trying to convey?"

"Simply that you are under scanner. So you are to ensure that you are maintaining the decorum of the office."

"But was that not the way things were going in the office before? I have never heard some one doing something unwarranted in the office space."

"Why have you forgotten that walls elevators were converted to graffiti boards?"
"Some one with a freaky mind must have done that but that does not mean that you will indict every one for that incident."

"Why do not you just ignore them? If you are doing nothing that is questionable, why should you bother about those cameras? You will just get familiar to it in a few days."

Logically it's true. Unless you are not wrong, you need not worry about the laws and restrictions. But how can I ignore the fact that these mechanical intruders have tremendously narrow view. That "to see is to believe" is not applicable for the cameras as they present a sallow view of the things.

Dimensions can be filtered out by a deliberate selection of the angle, something the visual media utilize to spice up and increase the commercial value of the product. Now it's my turn to taste spice.

cameras are okay to monitor the movement of people and usually they're placed in the lobbies and elevators but if they are installed in work areas, that's a different nasty story altogether.
Cameras in the workplace???? That is cruel! How on earth are you supposed to work with an electronic eye looking at you ALL the time?? (Didn't Marshall Mcluhan say that the camera is an extention of the eye?)

Social surveillance, huh? I can understand what the loss of 'space' feels like.

Been used to them for a while, does not bother me and it is not like I am going to make out or something here. In any case, I am positioned right next to the travel desk and a bit of the logistics. So quiet and privacy is a non-existent concept for me.

yes, I can't just accept things when some one questions my integrity, even though I know it's not a move against any individual...

I feel cameras are a contraction, rather than extension of eye...it gives you a dead-cold view of things

rita

yes, the mobile phone that has became a part of me has already killed almost all the spaces around me...over and above that...

codey

yes, long back I too used to be "private"...no more...

But will that be a deterrent to the crotch scratchers and the gold diggers?

That's an intelligent questing from a mindless one...

Quoting from Grant Morrison (sort of paraphrased)
"The more cameras you put around people, the more chaos you create, because people start reacting to the cameras, they become actors instead of people."
And if there's cameras everwhere...then where are the people?

I support your quote...that's why violence today is more violent, demonstrations are more demonstrating, terror more terrorising...there's the self proclaimed observers and guards collectively called "media" launched with hawk eyed cameras...

ANY ANSWER?

Clemenceau… The ship that died. But didn’t stop killing. Imagine you're the State of France. What do you do with a 27,000-tonne warship full of asbestos, PCBs, lead, mercury, and other toxic chemicals, which you don't want and no European country is willing or able to scrap for you? Why, you send it off to India to be broken up by hand in a scrapyard where impoverished workers are injured and die every day? GREENPEACE, india

I AM ALIVE!

Every time I looked at the calendar I was happy, seeing the weekend coming closer. Two consecutive off days! There were so many things pending. Though I was expecting my new work profile to be consuming, but I never thought it would be so overriding. In spite of all my efforts throughout the past fortnight, I failed to manage time to blog. So, first thing I would do is to visit my favourite blogs and if possible post something, I decided. There were two tags from Jac and Aquamarine pending (almost for a month). I managed to sit and finished writing thems. But, thanks to many technical difficulties posting them remained to be a reality. Here comes another weekend and with a little time to spare, trying to post them. Here's the tag from Jac What were you doing 10 years ago? Busy cracking formulas and theories of mathematics.
