ANY ANSWER?

Clemenceau… The ship that died. But didn’t stop killing.

Imagine you're the State of France. What do you do with a 27,000-tonne warship full of asbestos, PCBs, lead, mercury, and other toxic chemicals, which you don't want and no European country is willing or able to scrap for you?

Why, you send it off to India to be broken up by hand in a scrapyard where impoverished workers are injured and die every day?

They send it here because our administration here welcomes them. Someone can't simply dump all their waste on our backyards if our government is not willing. The fault lies not only to the west but also within our whole system.

I am with Soumyadip on this. It is no use pointing a finger at others when we ourselves are responsible for it!

Greed and poverty encourage this trend. The ship breaking yard thrives inspite of the health hazards because there are mouths to feed.

Egypt which initially stopped the Clemenceau from sailing forth has decided to give the green signal, eventhough the quantity of asbestosis used is well above the limit but it was declared otherwise.
I was also given to understand that the Supreme Court in India had issued orders stopping the French vessel from dumping toxic materials on India's shores.
Much remains to be seen. I wish we could as concerned citizens do something about it. It is for this reason that I have named my blog Utopia!
What!!! I don't believe this! Even the Indophiles like the French!
